Harol Innovative Coolscreen Wins Red Dot Award for Product Design

With their new ‘Coolscreen’ design Harol has taken cooling to the next level. This also applies to the styling, because the international Red Dot Award 2023 judges have awarded the entire collection the product design prize. On 19 June, Harol will officially receive the prize in Essen, Germany. Coolscreen stands for a new generation of sun screening systems that combine the best of three worlds: smart functionality, sustainable design and robust technology.

The new Harol screens are now more sustainable than ever. They provide a natural buffer against overheating (or protect against the cold in winter), and thus reduce energy consumption and increase your comfort levels – they block out the sun with various levels of light permeability and less acoustic resonance. Throughout their entire design process Harol focuses on environmental friendliness, using just a minimum number of components that are suitable for a maximum number of installations. The entire assembly/fitting simply involves clicking the components into place. Hence, no need for glue. Furthermore, at the end of their life cycle, all of the components can simply be disassembled and recycled.

CEO Annick Draelants: “We are incredibly proud that our Harol product range has received yet another Red Dot Award! As an innovative player in natural cooling, our aim is to provide sustainable solutions that blend beautifully into the background. The Coolscreen collection stands for a new generation of blinds that not only provide energy-efficient sun protection, but which are also designed to be sustainable from start to finish. This award therefore recognises our efforts in the field of innovation and design, as well as sustainability. Our forward-looking vision is paying dividends.”

The Coolscreen concept consists of a modular package that includes a bottom lath (37 mm), two side tracks and a functional click system (35 mm), a central track (55 mm) and two types of cassettes (round and square and with the visible profile measuring 95 mm, 115 mm and 140 mm). This collection is a total design that is suitable for any type of installation:

  • Installation in front of the window with a compact round or square cassette including a zip system
  • Installation in front of the window with narrow window profiles and corner solutions, a round or square cassette with cable ducting
  • Installation in front of the window and operated by solar energy
  • Installation in front of the window with LED lighting for increased privacy, safety and ambiance
  • Installation on glass curtain walls with a ‘Protect Glass’ mounting profile to prevent glass breakage
  • Invisible installation in the cavity without thermal bridging for passive and NZEB houses

All Harol Coolscreens offer minimum fabric fading and silent operation thanks to the optimised Harol X-Glide Technology. The minimalistic design of the cassette and the sliding blocks – screwless and including a bottom lath which is (partially) concealed in the cassette – is aesthetically very pleasing and offers designers numerous creative opportunities.
